Our story

In the heart of the Belgian countryside, Sylvie grew up surrounded by nature and her father’s artistry as a saddler. Always feeling the evening chill, she longed for a way to stay warm without sacrificing her love for the outdoors.

Her journey began with a simple inspiration—a blanket for equestrian athletes. But it lacked full back coverage and Syvlie was convinced that wrapping the waist was  a key element to warm the full body and creating long lasting comfort. Sylvie worked with her father to create a tailored solution. This innovation, combined with her husband’s clever fastening design, evolved into a chic waist wrap—functional, stylish, and perfect for home & outdoor enthusiasts.

Along the way, Sylvie discovered Belgian artisans and textile makers renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, working for the greatest, even for iconic designers like Dries Van Noten. Together, they brought Mataluu to life: elegant, sustainable waist wraps that radiate warmth and comfort.

For Sylvie, Mataluu isn’t just a product; it’s a celebration of her family’s passion for timeless craftsmanship and a shared commitment to quality, innovation, and connection.

The origins of the name "Mataluu" :

The name Mataluu is a creative blend inspired by the Icelandic words Hlýja and Mátulegur, evoking warmth and coziness, and the Japanese words Raku and Atsui, symbolizing comfort, strength and warmth.
